Berea College 50th Annual Celebration of Traditional Music

Berea College presents the 50th annual Celebration of Traditional Music, celebrating a half-century of home-made music passed on from person to person in the Appalachian Region and the musicians who play it.

This year, we honor some of our earliest performers and the many committee members who have worked to sustain this jewel of an event over the years.

Events take place across campus at the Loyal Jones Appalachian Center, Gray Auditorium, Woods-Penn Commons, and Cowan Chapel.  CTM is sponsored by the L. Allen Smith Memorial Fund and is planned and presented by the Loyal Jones Appalachian Center, the CTM Committee, the Music Department, and the students of the Folk-Roots Ensemble.

Concert: Paul Brock Band (High Powered Music from Ireland)

November 7, 2022 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm EST

Join us for a free concert with four of Ireland’s leading traditional musicians.

The Paul Brock Band is fronted by one of Ireland’s most celebrated traditional musicians: Paul Brock on button accordion and melodeon. The band also features acclaimed pianist, composer and arranger Denis Carey as well as fiddler/dancer/bodhran player Jake James and multi-instrumentalist Brenda Dowling.  Lori M. Gallagher wrote “The genuine warmth of each member of the Paul Brock Band, both on and off the stage, makes their concert a one-of-a-kind experience for all. The joy that radiates from the band during every piece makes one’s spirit soar.”
