Writing Toward a Better World

March 2 @ 3:00 pm

Roxane Gay headshot

Roxane Gay

Writer Roxane Gay joins bell hooks center founder and director M. Shadee Malaklou for a conversation about hooks’ fearless feminism. They think and dream with hooks about how to write toward a better world, addressing topics ranging from trauma to love, to how we dismantle the intersecting structures of oppression that hooks names “imperialist white supremacist capitalist patriarchy.”

Envisioning the Future of Work: Building More Inclusive Workplaces

Dr. Rachael Pettigrew ’97

Dr. Pettigrew is a management professor at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Canada. Her research draws on her interdisciplinary educational background (i.e., Business, Sociology, and Child and Family Studies) to explore topics related to gender in the workplace, work-life balance, family-friendly policies, as well as diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Using an interdisciplinary lens, Dr. Pettigrew will discuss the urgency of building more inclusive workplaces. Rooted in her research and bolstered by demographic data, she will present her vision for future workplaces, including building inclusive spaces with fewer barriers for employees, de-gendering workplace policies, and increasing the visibility of all types of care responsibilities in the workplace. Woods Lecture
